Danielle LaPorte is a name that I kept seeing on Pinterest and Instagram with powerfully inspirational quotes. Every time I would read one, I’d be nodding my head in agreement.
I’m sure you’ve seen some of her #truthbombs
Whatever I’m going through as a woman spiritually, she’s 10,000 steps ahead. But what I love about her is that she is just as raw and transparent and she just gets it. When I see other women and writers circulating their inner-most thoughts and feelings, it helps me to do the same.
Now that I’m a blogger, I realize that all of these Pinterest quotes actually lead somewhere, and so I clicked.
It lead me to her latest post where she challenges her readers to answer these 5 questions as a way to both reflect and gain clarity about the past year.
A way to consciously and intentionally grow. She calls it a “rapid-fire reflection.”
The 5 Questions are:
1.What didn’t work?
2.What did work?
3. What were the highlights?
4. What does the new year look like if it’s full of what works?
5. What do your highlights say about you?
Here’s what it looked like for me:
WHAT DIDN’T WORK
-Saying “yes” when I really meant “no”
-Saying “no” out of fear (living in fear)
-Excessively distracting myself in order to run from my internal battles (instead of honoring them and then healing them intentionally)
-Closing myself off instead of reaching out sooner
-Making excuses for the negative and toxic ways I was allowing myself to live and act
-Believing in negative self-talk
WHAT DID WORK
-Facing my demons head on and conquering them from a place of love
-Releasing my fears
-Being brutally honest with myself about all areas of my life
-Self-reflecting and being explicit about the parts of myself that need to be changed in order to heal, nurture, and flourish.
-Deciding on the type of life I want to lead and setting healthy boundaries in order to get me there
-Surrounding myself with people who encourage me
-Limiting experiences with people who bring me down, break my spirit, or bring me anxiety as I nurture and rebuild myself
-Writing again–as a form of therapy and self-reflection
WHAT WERE THE HIGHLIGHTS
-Finding my center again and nurturing myself spiritually
-Strengthening my relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit
-Nurturing my marriage and communicating better — deeper, gently, and consistently
-Facing my fears
-Traveling to Guam with my son, alone….and reaching extreme clarity in doing so
-Launching my blog
-Learning to finally live authentically, regardless of what people may think… (finding my tribe!)
WHAT DOES THE NEW YEAR LOOK LIKE IF IT IS FULL OF MORE OF WHAT WORKS…(very, very generally…)
-Deeper breathing, more connection to nature, and more meditation
-More time for devotions and prayer
-Listening to my body, recognizing anxiety as it creeps up and changing directions in order to stop it in its tracks
-More organization, more quiet time, more me-time
-More connection with people, friends, and family
-More creative outlets
-Pursuing more opportunities in order to claim my dreams
WHAT DO YOUR HIGHLIGHTS SAY ABOUT YOU?
I regularly require stillness, nature, and temporary disconnection from the world in order to connect to my inner self, find peace, and to reach healing and clarity. I need to speak my truth in order to make sense of it myself, and I require a community of women and people who understand me. I don’t want to do it alone any longer 🙂 I am a forever work-in-progress and I finally honor that with all of my heart.

And if you haven’t had a chance to sit down and truly reflect yet, I encourage this practice above…It took me 20 minutes to complete but it helped me dive deep and get straight to the root of my intentions.. Here’s to a wonderful New Year full of growth, love, and inner peace, friends!
Sending all my love and light to each of you!
